Some good news to start the week with!

The Co-op Energy will cut its electricity prices by 2% from 21 December. The surprising announcement was made on the day that British Gas price rise came into effect.

The company called for the other suppliers to put customers before profits and follow its lead.

“Wholesale electricity costs have come down and we were keen to ensure this was reflected in customers’ bills as soon as possible,” said Nigel Mason of the Co-operative Energy.

Mr Mason added that “at a time when the image of the energy market is being further tarnished, we need to show we’re doing all we can to put customers first, build trust and restore faith.”

If a small energy company, with over 60,000 households, can reduce the prices, the questions will be asked why can’t the big ones!

So far, five out of the Big Six energy companies have increased energy prices adding up to £120 a year to the household bills.

The big six control over 90 % of the UK household energy market.
