Hardly a day goes by without some announcement of another price increase.

This time it is Tesco which announced that it is raising the cost of line rental for its customers by 10 pc from March, to £14.90.

The supermarket, with the cheapest deals on the market for broadband and home phone so far, has given the customers only ten days to switch providers, after they received notification of the price rise.

The Telegraph quotes Dominic Baliszewski, a telecoms expert, saying that this “brings Tesco in line with many other providers in the market who tend to charge between £14 and £15 per month for line rental. However this will be cold comfort to households who are already feeling squeezed as we approach Christmas.”

Earlier the price of Sky line rental increased from £12.25 to £14.50 a month while BT has also announced that its line rental in the New Year will go from £14.60 to £15.45.
