Using Argan Oil in Massage.

In this piece of writing I have tried to explain what Argan Oil is; why people use it and how I use it in my massages.
What is Argan Oil?
Argan oil, often called Moroccan Oil, is the extract of the Argan nut. The Argan tree is, a rare species of tree endemic or found only in the Southern parts of Morocco. It can take up to 20 hours to extract a litre of Argan oil. This is done by traditional methods. It is used in a multitude of ways, including for beauty on skin, on hair, a mono-unsaturated oil it is ideal for lowering cholesterol and is used widely in cooking.
The process for food usage is different to that of cosmetic. The Argan oil I use in my massages has been cold virgin pressed by hand and is NOT roasted. Most Argan oil is produced by women’s cooperatives.
Why use it?
Argan oil is expensive and difficult to get hold of. It is well known for its high levels of mono unsaturates, the level of vitamin E is very high which is reputed to be good for the nourishment of the skin and hair. Moroccans claim that it can be successfully used on stretch marks to reduce their size, eczema , reduce the impact heart disease and incidences of prostrate cancer. While these claims are not yet fully proven, Argan oil has been used in Morocco for centuries and its usage when bought from a genuine women’s cooperative, not only helps you feel better about your skin and body, but about yourself as well as you are empowering groups of women to be independent financially and to be educated, in a traditionally male dominated society.

How I am using it?
Due to its wonderful properties for the skin, I am offering massages using Argan oil. This is part of the whole routine to ensure that the fullest amount of nourishment is given to the skin and scalp. The oil absorbs quite quickly and many places use other oils with the Argan as well to bring the price down. This also reduces the benefits of all that extra vitamin E. Consequently , for a £5 supplement I am able to offer you a treatment using Argan oil as the only massage medium. The skin is left non-greasy, smooth and has a feeling of being nourished. Hair is left soft and it’s wonderful for the scalp when used as part of an Indian Head massage.
Other massages that I perform include holistic massage, chair or onsite massage, Table Thai, pregnancy and Natural Face Lift massage.
